What is RSS?
RSS is a simple and effective way of keeping up to date with all your favourite web sites. RSS (which, in its latest format, stands for "Really Simple Syndication") is a family of formats used to publish frequently updated content such as news headlines, blog entries or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to always have the latest information from their favourite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.
What do I need to use RSS?
Very little other than a modern browser like Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2. All modern browsers support RSS and its as simple as clicking the feed icon and your browser will do the rest. Excellent RSS utilities are supplied by MyYahoo or GoogleReader for total control of your RSS content.
There are also dedicated news readers which supply RSS feeds as an alternative to browser-based reading. For a list of dedicated news readers try Allrss.com
What are the benefits of using RSS?
RSS is an easy way for you to be alerted when content that interests you appears on your favourite Web sites. Instead of visiting a particular Web site to browse for new articles and features, RSS automatically tells you when something new is posted online. The updated information is fed to your reader, often within a few minutes although on occasions it might take a little longer.
